Cirque Shibari

In 2015, in collaboration with Marika Leila Roux alias Gorgone, I directed the rehearsals of  a very ambitious project: “The Cirque Shibari“.
It was commissioned by a Canadian producer, who – after seeing a Shibari (Japanese Rope Bondage) performance by Gorgone – had the wish to create a professional show making the art of Kinbaku accessible to a larger public. “The Cirque Shibari” was supposed to travel around the world, starting by touring the United States.
To create a first draft of the show
Gorgone invited a selection of riggers and models from different countries. With the support of Felix Ruckert, who was curating the choreographies, we organized an audition for dancers as well.

The rehearsals took place in Berlin, at schwelle7 and the whole process was filmed. Unfortunately, the mainstream world did not seem to be ready for such a show and the project was never fully realized.

Nevertheless, it was a very intense experience for all of us and for me personally the first full immersion into the world of Shibari.
These are some videos I made for the project.
